Impeachment Seems Fitting
Joe Biden’s debacle in the Middle East should cost him his job, either by choice, or by Congress.
In 16 days the United States will be mourning the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. On that day many Americans lost their lives to barbarous savages who set out to terrorize our nation into submission. While the wars we’ve had in the Middle East have not been perfect, and neither have our leaders for that matter, we were nevertheless determined to never let this happen again. While we did not “win” the war in the most conventional terms, we did crush many foes such as ISIS and even al-Qaeda who sought to bring about an age of radical fundamentalistic Islam upon their nations--beheading Christians and other religious rivals, beating women and forcing them into sex slavery, the murder of thousands of political dissidents and most likely the planning of future terror attacks. In the quest we may not have always been right, but our motives were to protect both the freedoms of those abroad and those at home.
For the past 3 or so years I’ve deemed it right for us to pull out of the Middle East after we had already achieved our goals. I had agreed with the Trump administration that leaving Afghanistan was critical to returning back to some form of anti interventionist foreign policy. I was extremely pleased with the progress we had made in stabilizing the region for our departure such as peace talks, trade agreements, and so forth. Once Donald Trump had announced that we’d be leaving the Middle East by Christmas I was ecstatic, but then of course, Joe Biden rolled into the White House.
I, like many others, believed Biden to follow the politics of the status quo by essentially being another Obama, boy was I and many others dead wrong. Now, I won’t get into other areas of policy, and have elected only to stay on the issue of foriegn affairs. When it comes to the Middle East, I believed Biden’s only positive policy I’d support would be leaving the region. I thought this would be a victory for a more libertarian styled policy and that it would be a success. After the events of the last few weeks, I’ve determined that this was wrong, and that leaving would be an unmitigated disaster as we have effectively discredited ourselves among those we promised to support. While I haven’t gone full George Bush on foriegn policy, I have become much more inclined to accept some form of interventionism in order to keep peace.
Moving towards the issue of Joe Biden though, I believe he must pay with his job for this massive blunder. As of right now 13 military personnel have died in order for our forces to evacuate through the Kabul Airport, and I fear many more will suffer the price of Biden’s mistake. The way that the president has had his press corp spin this has also been absolutely shameful. Jen Psaki is dancing around this issue by playing word games with journalists and has done her best at trying to downplay the future deaths of American lives and our allies. Elsewhere our allies are in complete contempt of the United States and our abandonment of them and our plans. Many of our friends in Afghanistan will also be left behind when we leave on August 31 and will most likely be hunted down by the Taliban and executed for their assistance against terrorists like them.
Biden told us multiple times that the Taliban wouldn’t take over quickly at all, he said that they would not harm people and for some strange reason Joe Biden believed that the Taliban would be peaceful towards Americans and American sympathizers. His partner in crime Ms. Harris laughed when she was asked questions about the crisis. She figured it was best for her to make a trip to the southeast Asian hemisphere in order to learn how NOT to leave a country you promised to defend and protect from radicals. Ben Sasse wrote in the National Review titled “Worse than Saigon” that,
“America is the world’s greatest superpower. We ought to act like it. But President Biden and his national-security team have failed to protect even the American embassy in Kabul. They have broken America’s promises to the men and women who long for freedom — especially those thousands of Afghans who served alongside our military and intelligence services. They are turning their backs on the women and children who are desperate for space on the remaining flights out of hell.” -Senator Ben Sasse
I completely agree with Senator Sasse in his assessment of the Biden administration's handling of this catastrophic policy. Lindsey Graham also came out this week and flat out called for Biden’s impeachment. While on an interview with Rob Schmitt on Newsmax he said
“This is the most dishonorable thing the commander-in-chief has done maybe in modern times,” Graham said. “Joe Biden, for political reasons, wanted to pull all of our troops out because of the polling numbers, and what has he done? He’s created the conditions for another 9/11, he’s abandoned thousands of people who honorably and bravely fought along with us.” -Senator Lindsey Graham
And while I don’t think Lindsey Graham is the best Senator when it comes to consistency in impeachment, it does show there is going to be a growing number of senators in favor of such action. Such a feeling would only be more emboldened if the Republican Party wins a majority in both the House and Senate during the 2022 midterms.
I think this leaves Biden with a simple choice. Either resign for his incompetence or face impeachment charges of dereliction of duty for his failure in this crisis he put us in.
